Facebook Creates Blockchain Team
Facebook has reported it is making another new team dedicated to exploring how the social media giant can use blockchain technology.
Facebook is likewise fabricating another group committed to blockchain innovation. David Marcus, the official responsible for Facebook’s standalone messaging app, Messenger, is leaving that post to run the blockchain group, these sources said. There will be a three division under new group, referred to as “New platforms and infra,” which will be managed by CTO Mike Schroepfer. Facebook’s AR, VR and artificial intelligence efforts will also live under Schroepfer’s division.
The new chain at Facebook is part up into three gatherings: the app family, new platforms and infrastructure, and central product services.
According to Recode, these latest changes at Facebook represent the “biggest executive shakeup in its 15-year history.”
The moves, which were announced internally to employees today, are meant to improve executive communication and user privacy, but the changes also come as Facebook battles with the reaction from the U.S. presidential decision, disclosures of control by the Russian government and the current Cambridge Analytica outrage.
It remains to be seen if and how Facebook will use blockchain innovation to give its 5 billion+ clients more insurance and responsibility for individual information.
